ATTACHMENT & PERINATAL MENTAL HEALTH
Parenthood is a major life transition which is often filled with a range of conflicting emotions and new experiences. Like any major life transition, becoming a parent can have an impact on mental health and wellbeing, identity and our relationships. Mental health concerns during pregnancy and in the early years of a child's life are common with around 1:5 new mums and 1:10 new dads reporting to experience anxiety and depression during this period.

Not only is this period important for new parents, but also for children. Evidence suggests that the first 3 years of our life are key in our development and that experiences in early childhood can have a lasting impact on our health and wellbeing.

Early intervention has been shown to be helpful for both parents and children alike with a focus on the early attachment relationship through supportive counselling, hands on activities to enhance bonding and parent coaching. We can offer infant and perinatal mental health interventions including the Circle of Security parenting and intensive programs designed to help parents and carers understand their child's needs, support their emotions and enhance their development through the security of the parent-child relationship.
Rebates are available from Medicare with a Mental Health Treatment plan from your GP.
